Welcome to The Three Hierarchs Greek School! It is a privilege to chair our wonderful school which embodies the values of the Greek language, culture and heritage. We believe that education is an asset for life and we strive for all our pupils, irrespective of background, to reap the benefits of our multifaceted curriculum. We take pride in our school’s work which enables our pupils learn the Greek language, experience the Greek culture, be inspired by a positive ethos and build lasting friendships.

On behalf of our pupils and staff I would like to welcome you to the Three Hierarchs Greek School. I am very proud to be the Headteacher of this school and support it the way it has supported me all these years.

We aim to provide a safe environment for all students where they feel secure to develop their independence, enjoyment for learning and achieve their full potential. We pride ourselves in making learning Greek fun and enjoyable. Our goal is to help our students not only learn the Greek language, but also experience our cultural background and way of living in order to keep the ‘Greek spirit’ alive.

I hope this school year brings lots of achievements. Our dedicated teachers will help our children learn their mother language, keep their minds busy and will provide them with the skills to become well-educated and respectable members of the Greek community. I wish every student a new academic year full of knowledge and happy memories.

About Us

We are an independent supplementary Greek school for children from 4 to 18 years of age and for adult students, serving the Greek and Greek Cypriot communities across Yorkshire and its surrounding districts. The school is part of the Three Hierarchs Greek Orthodox Community of Leeds (charity number 249960).

Our school was funded in 1962 by members of the Greek Cypriot community with the aim of promoting the Greek education and culture. It has since grown steadily and currently has over 110 registered pupils and adult students. In 2019 the school moved to the current newly refurbished premises (31 Avenue Crescent, Leeds) which offer modern and child-friendly learning facilities.

The school follows the curriculum developed by the Cyprus Educational Mission and the University of Crete for Greek schools of the diaspora. The Ellinomatheia curriculum, as developed by the Centre of Greek Language in Greece, is also taught at all levels. In addition to teaching the Greek language, we organise a variety of cultural activities which are an integral part of the Greek identity. We prepare students for the Ellinomatheia exams, the GCSE exams (Foundation and Higher Tier) and the CGE A level exams in modern Greek, and we take pride in our students’ excellent results. One-to-one tuition and small group learning is also available at the school. 

The school is officially recognised as a Department of Greek Language by the Ministry of Education in Greece and receives funding by the Cyprus Educational Mission in the UK. It is a one of the Greek schools coordinated by the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain and it is a member of the National Resource Centre of Supplementary Education. The school is approved as an examination centre for the GCSE and CGE A level exams in modern Greek by the Joint Committee for Qualifications and Pearson Edexcel (centre number: 37672) and also for the Ellinomatheia exams by the Centre of Greek Language in Greece (centre number: 44011).

Το σχολείο μας είναι ανεξάρτητο παροικιακό Ελληνικό σχολείο για παιδιά ηλικίας 4 έως 18 ετών και για ενήλικες μαθητές. Το σχολείο. Ανήκει στην Ελληνική Ορθόδοξη Κοινότητα του Leeds (αριθμός κοινωφελούς ιδρύματος: 249960) κι εξυπηρετεί τις Ελληνικές κι Ελληνοκυπριακές παροικίες της ευρύτερης περιοχής Yorkshire.

Το σχολείο ιδρύθηκε το 1962 από μέλη της Ελληνοκυπριακής κοινότητας με σκοπό την προαγωγή της ελληνικής παιδείας και παράδοσης. Από την ίδρυσή του έως σήμερα το σχολείο έχει αναπτυχθεί και έχει πάνω από 110 εγγεγραμμένους μαθητές (παιδιά κι ενήλικες). Το 2019 το σχολείο μεταφέρθηκε σε νέα διεύθυνση (31 Avenue Crescent, Leeds) που παρέχει σύγχρονο και φιλικό μαθησιακό περιβάλλον στους μαθητές μας.

Το σχολείο ακολουθεί το αναλυτικό πρόγραμμα της Κυπριακής Εκπαιδευτικής Αποστολής και του Πανεπιστημίου της Κρήτης για Ελληνικά σχολεία της διασποράς. Επίσης διδάσκεται η Ελληνομάθεια κατά τις προδιαγραφές του Κέντρου Ελληνικής Γλώσσας στην Ελλάδα σε όλα τα επίπεδα. Παράλληλα με τη διδασκαλία της Ελληνικής γλώσσας, το σχολείο διοργανώνει ποικιλία πολιτιστικών δραστηριοτήτων που αποτελούν αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της Ελληνικής ταυτότητας. Το σχολείο προετοιμάζει τους ενδιαφερόμενους μαθητές για τις εξετάσεις Ελληνομάθειας, και τις εξετάσεις GCSE (Foundation and Higher Tier) και CGE A level. Είμαστε ιδιαίτερα περήφανοι για την άριστη επίδοση των μαθητών μας επί σειρά ετών στις εξετάσεις αυτές. Το σχολείο επίσης προσφέρει ιδιαίτερα μαθήματα καθώς και ολιγομελή τμήματα κατόπιν συνεννόησης.

Το σχολείο είναι επίσημα αναγνωρισμένο ως Τμήμα ελληνικής Γλώσσας (ΤΕΓ) από το Υπουργείο Παιδείας της Ελλάδας και λαμβάνει χρηματική στήριξη από την Κυπριακή εκπαιδευτική Αποστολή του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Ανήκει στην ομάδα σχολείων που υπάγονται στο συντονιστικό γραφείο της Ιεράς Αρχιεπισκοπής Θυατείρων και Μεγάλης Βρετανίας και είναι μέλος του Εθνικού Κέντρου Συμπληρωματικής Εκπαίδευσης (National Resource Centre of Supplementary Education) του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου.
